Fika a Swedish institution

Fika is a very special word for all swedes, it basically means to have a cup of coffee or a coffee break. Some people say that Sweden would stop without fika but what is true is that nobody in Sweden would consider the workday complete without having at least one fika.

Fika is not just a break it is a social institution when people take a short break form work and sit down with one's colleges and discuss anything but work. Normally the fika includes some kind of cake, called Fika-bread [Fikabröd] but it does not necessarily have to include the coffee. Tea or just a glass of milk works just as fine. The important thing is to take a short break and socialise.
